ABSTRACT
Spontaneous dissection of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) without aortic dissection is a rare condition. A compromise of the intestinal blood supply is a likely cause of death. Therefore an early diagnosis is important. We report a case of isolated dissection of the SMA which was detected by post contrast abdominal computed tomography (CT). The patient was successfully treated by a percutaneous endovascular stent placed within the main trunk of the SMA.
